After the pandemic, many people started redefining what “home” means to them. Since they were home more, they thought about whether or not they liked their home, who they lived with, and more. Plus, home values are up 35% since 2020. Many homeowners who wanted to move thought they would have to wait longer to get this kind of progress in their equity, and when they realized they didn’t have to, they made their decisions faster. 

As more people decided to move quickly, remote work also rose, which provided more flexibility, even if the work is hybrid now. About 50% of people are in this situation, which means that a lot of people have more flexibility to move to a more ideal spot for them.

For a variety of reasons, the five main states where most people are moving are Florida, Texas, Arizona, Idaho, and Montana. They might be doing so for political reasons, but these areas also have better weather and other favorable attributes. Another reason that some people are moving out of Washington is that this state doesn’t have great options for downsizing. Plus, in the other states listed above, people’s money stretches further. Therefore, this migration is a result of many factors.
