Haunted Houses: The True Spooky Stories Behind Sold Properties
Halloween is approaching, and it has me contemplating haunted houses and some of the properties we've sold over the years. Whether you believe in the supernatural or not, I've sold enough homes with intriguing stories that leave me wondering, sparking deep thought. I'd like to share two stories with you.
The first one recounts an experience from about eight years ago. We were preparing to sell a property, and it was part of our concierge service, which involves renovating the home before the sale. The house was in the midst of significant construction, and the buyer had the option to cover the upgrade costs at closing.
This particular client happens to be a personal friend of mine. We've known each other for over 25 years, dating back to our college days. When he approached me to sell his home, we decided it needed some cosmetic updates. Our team got to work with painting and installing hardwood flooring.
The house was enveloped in a cloud of dust due to the ongoing construction. So, although he had moved out, he returned to the house one Monday morning to meet with the contractor. They exchanged pleasantries, and then the contractor mentioned, "I saw that you might have been here over the weekend, perhaps with one of your kids." Surprisingly, my client responded, "No, I wasn't here over the weekend, and I don't have any children."
The contractor then explained that there were unmistakable child footprints all over the house in the dust, even on top of some dressers and scattered throughout the place. At that moment, my client felt a chill run down his spine as he recalled an incident from about ten years earlier. He had fallen asleep in the living room and, around 2 a.m., had awakened to find a three-year-old girl standing between him and the kitchen. They made eye contact for a few seconds, but when he blinked, she vanished. This memory resurfaced as the contractor brought up the child's footprints in the dust, leaving an indelible impression.
